Our Model for Child Sponsorship: Team Giving
Our sponsorship program (Advocate Model) is designed to provide donors with an opportunity to invest in the lives of children, while protecting each child’s sense of dignity and identity. We want our children to see themselves not as orphans and “charity cases”, but rather simply as children within families and members of the family of God. None of our children will therefore ever know that they are sponsored or provided for by outside donors. They will simply view their parents and God as their providers.
Our children will experience the providence of the Lord through the unconditional support and care of an immediate family (Advocate Family) and the prayer and provision of an extended family (Advocate Sponsors). While the children will remain unaware of their Advocate Sponsors, each Advocate Family will keep their Advocate Sponsors apprised of their child’s development and significant life events. We believe that this model emphasizes direct familial ties for our children, a key cultural value in Honduran life. Simultaneously, it facilitates, via the Advocate Sponsors, the central biblical value of God’s people caring for orphans and widows.
Advocate Sponsors will be arranged into teams of 6, so that steady, ongoing provision will be ensured. If one member of a team is unable to fulfill his/her sponsorship commitment for a period because of extenuating circumstances, then the remainder of the team will be committed to fulfilling that team’s entire pledge for that period.
